out of date pale malt extract. safe to use????

is out of date pale malt extract. safe to use? i have just bought a lot of equipment from ebay & it came with 5 litres of pale malt extract but it ran out of date in nov 07. is it any good to use???? or will ruin any beer i try to make with it??? thanks for any help.

Yeah I'm sure it will be fine. Give it a sniff when you open it - if it smells ok use it. Malt extract darkens when its old though so you wont get anything pale from it

If the malt extract is sealed(ie canned) then it should be ok.If its 5ltrs left in a 15/25kg tub then belong as there isnt mould growing on top then its usable :-k !,if there is mould then just scoop the stuff off it with a sterile spoon :wall .
