Morning all Back from a lovely week in Kielder Forest and now it's ..... Stout Kegging Time!!!!

Ditch, me old mukka!!! That's the self same Stout kit I used. So I'm looking forward to this one.

Just trying to figure out how much to prime with. I've got the choices of bog-standard white sugar, glucose, caster or demerera sugar which may be good..... any suggestions.? 85g?

Found the instructions..... they're a bit generic but it does say up to 8g per litre!!!!

Ended up using 75g of demerera and 30g of caster.

I didn't want to use the glucose as I have another Bitter kit to get on today and will use it for that instead.

I tasted the dregs in the siphon tube and WOW!!!!

Thinking about it, I guess it's had less than perfect conditions.
Credit crunch and all...... and I'm a tight wad...... I turned off the heating in the house whilst on holiday.... so the Stout has been brewed in a lower temperature than it should, but it's had a longer brew time, so I'm hoping the 2 cancel each other out..... tasted good anyway

I've only just got in so didn't see ye Priming questions. Funny thing is though; I keg and have never yet thought (remembered / bothered) to prime a keg! Perhaps I should? Just never think of it and never suffered for not doing it.

Be getting my own load in, within the month. Last day of the year's my birthday, and I know damn well what I'll be sitting here with then!

Nooooo! Ye have to leave it to 'Mature' and all that before ye can possibly Drink any.

For about a week

Once I 'had a sample', that was my lot. Gone in no time!

With the will power of a gnat..... I've tried the young (week in the KK) Stout and it's lov-er-ly!!!! A bit thin yet but that'll improve with age!!!! I've some cider I'm drinking at the mo, basically supping the stuff that's ready, and I go on call next weekend so that'll force an extra 2 untouched weeks in the keg.

I've a bucket of Highland Heavy to bottle this weekend.......


Ditch, I've got to visit the Emerald Isle next week with work..... I'll be staying in Dublin so intend to visit the Guinness factory on the Saturday (or Thursday if I'm there in time....) .....where should I go for my stout?

Un Real!!! Ye jammy bugger! I'd love to have a look round the Guinness place, if only to find out what Better stuff they do than the gnats piss I'm buying off them right now, from 'pumps' and cans.

As for where to go, in Dublin, for a pint? Sorry, mate. Dublin, out here in my bog, is another world entirely.

Best thing I can advise - and which I'd likely try myself, if I ever felt a visit to 'The Smoke' coming on - would be to check out the " Irish Craft Brewers Forum ". I believe that's what they're called? One or two leading members on here. They're mostly Dublin people.

If they can point ye to a consistently good pub / beer? I too would like to hear of it. Damn slim chance of me ever ending up there. But, if I ever should? Fore armed, and all that .....

I am slaverin' just readin this post!! I just resurrected all my ancient equipment a few weeks ago after a 25 year break from HB.

I've got my first AG brew conditioning in bottles for Christmas and a second one in my fermenter (destined for the Keg this weekend), but this Coopers Stout sounds too good to miss PLUS, and now the best bit! I just spotted a pressure Keg and a fermenter in a local auction tonight so I will be equipped to keg it at very low cost!

Before the auction, I'm off to my local HBS in search of a can of the aforesaid and alleged "Black Gold" and some Spraymalt. Wot do you reckon Ditch, if I get it started this weekend can I ferment it, keg it and get it in a drinkable condition for Christmas?

I was going to start a new thread but seeing as this Coopers Stout one was near the top of the list I thought I would just tag my question on the end.

Anyone know what the FG for the stout is, had mine going since last weekend and its down to 1.010 (OG was about 1.044), just wondering roughly how much further it has to go before I can keg it. Hoping to keg it this weekend so hopefully it will give me two days of constant readings

It won't be matured by then, FHK. But it'll still taste good enough to stop ye in ye tracks And I'd wager ye'll notice the differences between that first pint, and the last.

Indeed, this is probably Why the Coopers Stout has simply swept aside any other pint I've tasted in my entire life; Because, even apart from the inherent " OMFG! Factor " of it washing over ye taste buds and tantalisingly defying ye mind to pin down a description of what ye experiencing there; The experience subtly shifts with such tiny variations as another day. Be it maturity or ambient temperature of the room it's served from.

In short; I've tasted several variations from a single brew / keg. All differed, somehow. None failed to leave me grinning like Mr Green. Pinning it down is like holding smoke.

Thanks Ditch, I'm gona get the black brew goin tomorrow. I'll try to control myself and not drink it all too fast, so that I can see how it changes over time.........but no promises Thanks for the advice and I'll post the results in due course!
