Hi all, its my first time on this forum and my first brew. I had to go to beer as I developed an alergic reaction to wine. My first brew using some of my wine kit was a Woodfords Wherry bitter and I placed the brew in the room with the hot water tank is sited.
It was on the colder side during the day when out to work so I wrapped it with bubblewrap and placed the drum on a polystyrene base.
I did not witness the fermentation but there was evidence of throth on the lid and rim, and the s/g was correct according to the instructions.
Transfered it to the barrel and left it for a further 2 days then moved it to the Kitchen where its colder (would you believe!). After 1 week, I decided to tap some off, but found it would'nt pore, so I made an effort to open the sealed lid and put the float in the beer better. I was also surprised to find that the beer barrel had not developed any gas in the 1 week being stored, Is this normal ?
It is still cloudy with a bit of sediment in the glass, but did taste OK. Am I on the right track.
Many thanks!

Re: First brew
you need to leave the keg in the warm for a week to allow for secondary fermentation(18-22 or so degrees)then you should have pressure in the barrel, the beer will then require a few weeks further conditioning to be at its best, Patience, Grasshopper

and that without a doubt is the hardest part.kenny850 wrote: Patience, Grasshopper
Re: First brew
Thanks, I will be patient and have moved the barrel back to the warm room.
