Baking Bottles

Is heat treating bottles i.e. sticking them in the oven, a suitable way of sterilising them? I boil jam jars in water when making preserves and it seems a quick and easy way of doing it.

I've never done it personally but my mates mum uses this method for her cider brewing.

As long as the bottles have no remaining beer etc in them and the temp is high > 120C I don't see a problem. As you'll need to clean them first you may as well save your gas/electricity bill and sanitise them as normal. Also, do you have a large oven as 40 bottles takes up a lot of room :wink:
