I have a Youngs pressure barrel and added my kit larger into it yesterday ready for the 2nd fermentation with the additional sugar.
However I came home today to about 2-3 pints on the floor where the tap has leeked (not the joint but out of the tap end even though it is fully closed.
What can i do to stop this from happening. if i let some pressure out will I get a flat brew?
HELP!!!! first brew and it might be going all wrong

Re: Youngs pressure barrel
does it have pressure release valve in the lid? if not let a little gas out co2 most will be dissolved in the beer so won't go flat. There have been cases of barrels splitting under too much pressure or deforming (popped out bottom) best a little flat than a lot split I say.

Re: Youngs pressure barrel
It has a small hole in the screw cap that a rubber sleave fits over.
I am unsure as to what this is for. You only get a good flow out when this is uncovered but I didn't want to leave it uncovered now if it was going to let all presure out and flattern the larger.

Re: Youngs pressure barrel
Hi mate, I had exactly this problem only yesterday! I found that when I closed the tap, if I didn't completely turn the lever back as far as I could, it stopped leaking. I think sometimes these cheapy barrels don't quite line up so have a play and find the eact position of the lever so as not to have a leak.
Re: Youngs pressure barrel
That's what I found as well. You need to back the tap off 2-3 mm from the fully closed position. I brought three of these kegs in the last 6 weeks and they are all now full and since I discovered this remedy none of them now leak.vinceg wrote:, if I didn't completely turn the lever back as far as I could, it stopped leaking.

Re: Youngs pressure barrel
Remember to lubricate the rubber seal also before sealing your beer in!
