anyone good at maths?
i brought some second hand scales which i think are no good. i weighed something on mine and it was 185g, however when i weigh it on another set of scales it weighs 270g. assuming that the second set are correct, could anyone tell me what 185g on my scales really is? and how to work it out for future refferance. EG: if i weigh 85g of sugar on my scales for priming, how much am i really using? i hope this made sense and that someone can help.
Re: anyone good at maths?
Eh?! If the second set are correct then 185g is 270g. As for future reference - seriously buy new scales....

Theres no maths needed for this. Weigh 85g on the inaccurate scales and then transfer whatever youve weighed to the accurate scales and you'll know how much youve added

If you are bottling then why weigh?sam c wrote: it could result in exploding bottles!!

Re: anyone good at maths?
because i add my priming mixture to an empty fv and then syphon the brew onto that.Lillywhite wrote:If you are bottling then why weigh?sam c wrote: it could result in exploding bottles!!
sorry the quetion was messed up, what i was trying to ask was how to work out what previous weghts actually were. ive worked it out now.on the good scales it weighed 230(sorry again not 270) so if on my scales something weighs 185g and 230 on another set then everything ive weighed previously was 45g less? that would be why i ended up with flat beer for my first brew. thought i added 85g for priming when actually it was 40g.woops.
Re: anyone good at maths?
Set of budget, Salter electronic scales, range 0g to 500g at Asda - £10.00. Peace of mind, priceless.
Bought budget scales (which can work in lb and kg) and used my balance scales weights to test them. Pretty accurate for a tenner.

Re: anyone good at maths?
ok . id love to know if anyone has a scientific answer to this sugar question, because i over sugared a lager kit [three times as much] recently due to a divvy
miscalculation and feared a terrible exploding bottle fiasco.
so far, only very sweet beer and no bottle bombs.
how come?
