I am a wet behind the ears newbie.
After mixing up a wherry kit and putting it in a brewbucket with a heat band around it appeared to have gone mad and then stopped. measured the SG 1,014 as advised on the box.
Is it normal for this to happen?
Thanks
Wherry reaches 1.014 in two days is this normal

Judging by what I read hear about stuck Woodforde's - I'd say No, it's certainly not normal - in fact, under nornal circumstances, I would say your bl**dy lucky. However, I have read on hear that a fermentation that goes too quick may produce a slight bitterness, but there are many on hear who have so much more knowledge than I and will put you right. Is it normal for this to happen?
Check the SG after 24 hours and see if it is still 1014. If so, I'd Keg it. I would guess that the heat band might be causing a higher temperature than is necessary, so next time you ferment check the temperature remains between 18-20 C. I don't know how good they are, but I think you can get a temperature guage to stick on the side of the F.V. - might be worth investing in one - then you can switch the band off when it gets too hot..
I have thought of getting a heat band, but I suspect i would only use it at night when the temperature in the house goes down.
Please take my advice with a bit of a pinch of salt - I'm a fairly wet newbie too. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

Can happen. My wherry droped to 1.016 in 2 days then down to 1.014 the next day. This was at constant 19-20C but with 1/2 teaspoon of yeast vit added.charlwood1005 wrote:I am a wet behind the ears newbie.

Cheers for the info
Checked it this morning and put it in a keg. Tasted normal and all the normal slurry in the bottom so I think it will be ok.
I have another kit and will be doing it soon without the heat band to see what happens.
out of 6 kits of wherry I have made 3 iv'e had to add additional yeast but this one went off like a bomb overnight so i missed it and just found it frothed up but not bubbling in the morning.
Time will tell no doubt.
I will get back on when drinking commences.

I've experienced no stuck fermentation problems with any of the last four Woodforde's kits I've done and the last three have all got down to 1.014 within 3-4 days.
My fermentation temperature is 20-24C and I've added a teaspoon full of yeast nutrient and I've re-hydrated the yeast before adding it to the wort.
