newbie 1st wherry advice

hi need advice from those that have had success,
my virgin brew is a JOHN THOMPSON XXX BITTER,
started 3rd feb with OG of 1042 put in barell 11th feb reading 1008 steady away at 18-20degrees,
added 4 table spoons of golden syrup for conditioning to 1.5pints boiling water,then into barrel.
now when do i blast the gas ?????

now i want start my second which is wherry, some on here have had great results others dismall, so b4 i committ what do i need to do or beaware of b4 its too late

Purge the barrel with co2 before you keg it,then when the lid is screwed on purge it once more!

Search for sticking woodfordes/muntons kits first!
Add a crushed up camden tablet to your water if you are taking it straight from the tap.If you have a spare FV then run of the amount of water needed into it and then add a crushed camden tablet to it to get rid of the chlorine/chloromines(iirc) which could affect the taste of your HB.
Aerate well and use an 11gram sachet of yeast(either so-4 or nottingham will do).

a teaspoon of Yeast Nutrient won't hurt...
My Wherry started at OG:1046 and finished at FG:1012 which was pretty much on the money!
Nothing stuck!

has anyone else tried john thompsons xxx bitter
was recomended by hbs in mansfeild,
even though i beleive its done by muntons, is this a clone of something else?????
as reading through posts, muntons seem to have a very wide range/multitude of choice,
maybe one too many?
