Fermentation Fridge

Post by scottish69 » Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:45 am

I was advised that one of the best ways to improve your been is to tightly control the fermentation temperature.

At the moment i brew in the house where the temp swings from 15 to around 19 over a daily cycle.

Someone recommended getting a fridge and removing the thermostat for a controllable one - the only problem i can see with this is that the fridge must then be placed somewhere warmer than the FV temp you want. I could stick a fridge in the garage but then overnight when temps drop sub 10 degrees the fridge cant INCREASE the temp to keep it at my chosen temp.

How does this work then? What do other people do to control the FV temp?

Cheers,

I use an Electrim 75 immersion type heater/stat which maintains wort temp at about 19 degrees(19 odd quid from brewgenie)i suppose you could use one in conjunction with an old fridge in your garage and the fridge would act as an insulated brewing cupboard-obviously dont plug the fridge in...

Is it fixed at 19 degrees or can you alter it? I brew lagers so really need a lower temperature.

Easy way is a light bulb. With these low temps at the minute you will only be heating the fridge if you have it in a outhouse, shed, garage or something similar.
