Re: where to get pear juice?
Morrisons do some in glass jars in their non-fridge juice section. It's fairly cloudy.
Drinking: Turbo Cider, Black Rain Stout, Jotun Killer Double Stout, Apple Wine, AG#1 F.A.G,
Fermenting: Bramble Wine
Conditioning: Blueberry Jam Mead, Gales Mead, HLM EPIC FORCE Methegln, Tropical Juice TC on an orange mead slurry, AG#2 S.L.A.G.
Waiting for Space: Muntons Conn: Bock

Re: where to get pear juice?
tesco are doing a new one. i bought some at the start of january. however i only got 2 ltrs of cider out of it as it mixed out to two deffinte layers. one thick porrage and one cloudy jiuce. wont be doing it again. i suggest you get some pears (conference) and grate them (skins and all after a wash in sodium metabisulphate), mix with water, add a bit of sugar. ferment it, rack of the pear bits after a week, add more water and then ferment out.
going to try this tomorrow myself

Re: where to get pear juice?
Ideally i'm looking for a clear pear juice bu sounds like it doesnt exist
will have to try making my own i suppose but then thats going to be quite expensive and time consuming so negates the whole homebrew aspect! got a magnum pear cider kit nearly finished so will see how that turns out and if it's ok i may just stick to that, we'll see and i'll let you know, let me know how yours goes drewadskin as if the magnum kit turns out crap i may well give your method a try

Re: where to get pear juice?
this may be a stupid suggestion - but to get a clear pear juice, could you not buy the cloudy one and add some Kwik clear or similar to it and wait for all the crud to drop out? Might make it less flavoursome than the cloudy but might work.
Re: where to get pear juice?
Actually i did trhink about adding water say 50%/50% then allowing it to settle for a few days then filtering it? would that leave me with a clear perry?
Re: where to get pear juice?
I have a chum who drives in France and Germany quite often.
I asked him to look out for pear juice, having had a hunch it may be more readily available on the Continent than over here.
He came back with a boot full of this stuff. It seeems to be quite widely available in the supermarkets of both countries. The last price, before the Sterling - Euro fluctuations, was 55p per litre.
You get the same fall-out of fibre during fermentation and you have to be prepared for a bit of hassle in filtering it out, but there is not as much as you get with Lidl's pear nectar, so you get more perry per litre.
It makes a cracking drink. I use Young's cider yeast but have tried beer yeast: I didn't notice much difference in the end product.
I realise this isn't much use to you unless you have access to supermarkets "over there", but you never know.
An alternative "over here" is Heinz's Pear Juice drink for babies. It can be found in the baby food section of most supermarkets. I think I saw some the other week in Lidls at £1.75 for 750 ml, which makes it very expensive.

Re: where to get pear juice?
Just thought I'd pass on that Morrison's are offering Heinz pear juice at £1.07 for 750mls. The offer runs until 31st May. The usual price is around £1.50. Look in the baby food section.
