Mash Water Temperature

Post by garwatts » Wed Jun 03, 2009 6:50 pm

I notice lots of brewers on here heat their mash water to 85C, not to 100C? I always boil mine first and allow to cool to 80-85C. Can I get away with just heating it 80-85C? Save on electric :? ?

course you can, it saves a bit time as well, no need to boil it to sanitise it as it's going to get this later on in the copper

I usually heat mine in the HLT to about 85 then dump it in the tun, wait till it heats the tun up and cools a bit to about 72/73 then in with the grains.
