Bulk LME/DME

Are you buying in bulk? If so, from where and for what price?

I buy 15kg Brupaks light LME for £51.39 (has gone up a bit I think) from H&G. They used to stock JohnBull 25kg but stopped a while ago.

Can anyone top that?

I believe John Bull have gone out of business. The problem I see with bulk buying LME is that you're going to have a lot of it in stock for quite a while getting less and less fresh by the day and increasing the risk of that "twang". That's one of the reasons I use spraymalt. I just wish I could get that in bulk.
Best wishes

I've never seen DME in bulk, except the stuff Munton's sells for bakeries which is supposedly the same stuff.

Well I get the 15kg and generally brew once a month. In 4ish brews it's gone so that's not really too long. It is a reason I didn't go for the 25kg when I had the option. I did once have some interesting stuff grow on top but scraped it off and brewed a big, dark beer. turned out fine. Never noticed any twang. Plus I'm at £3.40 / KG of malt. Well worth it.

Just to point out another one, Brouwland has bulk BrewFerm 25kg DME at €6/kg, shipping inclusive.

If I convert H&G's LME + shipping price to euros it's still cheaper at €5.33 (at today's exchange rate). But maybe it would be worth it to someone to pay a bit more for DME as it's shelf-life is longer. However, with H&G (to Ireland anyway) you can order another 14-15kg (specialty grains, hops, etc) for no extra shipping charge. Tough to beat.
