Glacier hops
Glacier hops
Anybody heard of these I just found them on ebay from a seller with only 72 feedback do you think they are for real or is he selling from his back garden.
The seller's name is the hops specialist (72) seems really cheap to me at only £1.40 for 100g

Re: Glacier hops
Sounds like he's just doing a good deal, i've emailed him to see if I can pick hops up from him! If so i'm buying 10 packs

Re: Glacier hops
I've got a Glacier hop plant growing. I've heard that it is a functional British style hop, whatever that means, that can grow in my less than stellar hop environment. So far I think I'll get about 60g this year (2nd).
Will do a brew in the fall and report, of course!

Ever tried Glacier in a beer flytact ?
60g is alright, I got about 30 peanut sized aphid ridden hops off my Fuggle last year

Re: Glacier hops
OP: The shop is Edina Homebrew, they are very reputable as far as I know
Re: Glacier hops
Bought some Mt.Hood, Liberty, Admiral and Pilot off Edina Homebrew and got a free 50g pack of Glacier. So far have only tried the Admiral and Glacier. They made quite a nice beer, with Admiral as the bittering hop and Glacier put in 10 mins before end of boil.
The rest are in the freezer, with the Liberty for use in Fullers Discovery and the Mt. Hood for an Oakham Ales JHB.
The Scottish guy who I think was the owner/manager seemed a very nice bloke on the phone.
The only thing I found a bit strange was that when the hops arrived they looked brown, but he had put them in brown paper bags before vac-packing them. Once opened they looked OK.
Hope this helps.

Re: Glacier hops
I'm growing some Goldings. How can you tell what AA% they are when you grow them yourself?

Never have had it in a beer. Never actually seen it offered either. I just wanted an English type hop that I could grow.
As for AA, you pretty much have to assume you'll be in the standard range and only use them as aroma hops if you really care. Or send them away for testing.

Re: Glacier hops
Popped into Edina (interesting part of Edinburgh, reminded me of parts of Glasgow!) and picked up a pack of Glacier, and one called 'Bravo', the latter because the guy with the hops recommended them
They sell pale malt at £25 a sack which is good too, i'm frequently down that part of town at the Meadowbank sports arena so this will probably be a new routine instead of spending a fortune on mail order

Re: Glacier hops
Hes very good i ordered glacier hops and he put in a free 50g sample of pilot hops.
Re: Glacier hops
Davie at Edina is a top guy. Very friendly and will go out his way to help. He sells 25Kg of MO for £35 delivered and he crushes it all fresh for you too. Never realised he had any presence on ebay and those prices do look very reasonable.

Re: Glacier hops
Yeah, i've been into his shop, the Brupaks silver foil ones are selling for 7 quid (pretty standard throughout homebrew shops).
Ask him about his ebay hops and he'll sell you them at £2.50 I think it was for 100g. They are re-packaging them from farams.
His malt prices are good too.
