Over-hopped wheat beer

Post by Chase24 » Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:51 pm

I recently made a wheat beer (my first) with a yeast culture I grew from a bottle of Cotswold Wheat Beer. The beer has a lovely fruit and spice aroma but I fear I added too many hops to the boil as the brew has a bit too much bite to it.

Any suggestions what's best? Should I leave it in bottle for a while or just drink up and notch it up to experience?

Leave it if it's too hoppy, hops fade with age.

I agree with Eadweard. Never pour anything down the sink unless it's infected. My first extract brew was a bit of a disaster as I over-boiled and ended up with 10 litres of wort instead of 19 and it was really bitter. I tried a bottle every two or three weeks and after about three months it wasn't bad at all.

Thanks guys. I'll leave it a few weeks and see. I had heard that the wheat flavours may also fade with age but it'll be interesting to see how they all develop
