Using finings before into the Corni?

I've got an FV of Gob Hobblin that I want to put into one of my new corni's I have just got from Norm. I've read on here about making sure that the beer is bright, so I wanted to add some finings to make sure any suspended substances have dropped, as I really don't want to clog up my new corni.

Just wanted to know which fining agents people use and what you think the pro's and con's of them are.

Bice one... i have a new corny that i'll be putting some bitter and twisted in. I understand it is about 50 g sugar pr 10 litres as well.

Can someone tell me how to use finings? Are they pput in after primary and before one taps to the keg? will this effect priming?

You shouldn't really prime with a corni. It should be force carbonated by a gas source. It will work with natural carb, but only for about 3-5 pints at most.

Usually to get a beer brite I will take my budget barrel sanatise and add a blast of CO2 just to be ultra cautious. Add the beer which should already be pretty clear. Now at this point you could gentley stir in the finings Gelatine or isinglass (search for usage) or leave to clear naturally. The sanatise the corni and burst some CO2 through it and add beer.

There's no need to ensure the beer is bright before racking to a Corny. I rack my beers straight from FV to Corny after about 1 week, without finings, and they always drop clear. Never had a problem with clogging either.

You do need to make sure that the keg is not disturbed once the beer has dropped clear, otherwise you will get a pint or 2 of cloudy beer again.

If you want to transport a Corny of bright beer, you can transfer the beer out of the product out of one Corny, and into the product out of a second Corny. I used this method for 2 kegs that I took to the Download Festival a few months ago. Coincidentally, 1 of the beers was Paul's Gobhoblin recipe.

If you are putting your beer straight from the FV into the Corni as a habit, its a good idea to shorten the draw pipe slightly by about 1/2 inch This will allow any sediment that collects to sit at the bottom rather than the beer being drawn straight from the base.

I've never felt the need to butcher the long dip tube personally. The first couple of pints may be a bit misty but it goes bright soon after.

A couple of my Cornies had their product out tubes shortened by the previous owner. I don't think it makes them perform any better to be honest.

I do cask ale in them fairly regularly. They work wonderfully. Initially, I have been guilty of cutting the dip tubes. It's an easy fix though. I just attached some vinyl tubing to ends to make them longer. If you're dip tubes are like mine, they should have a slight bend to them. I just moved the tube so it faces the side wall of the keg. I've never had a problem with swamp water showing its ugly head.
