first successful 3 kg kit

Post by AT » Sun Dec 24, 2006 10:47 pm

Just drank a few litres of my Woodfordes Wherry, it's only in the bottles 10 days and i feel it would benefit from a bit longer but now i know what all the fuss is about. A thick creamy head all the way to the bottom, as a man who loves head this is important to me. Only this morning my woman was pointing out how much i like head  . It sure does look like 3kg kits are the way forward for me. Just one question for the ag guys in the forum, can you really achieve better results with the ag brew? cause this is pretty good

My wherry will have been in bottle 10 days in 12 hours, may have to check just to compare notes on this.
I won't try now as have been enjoying the grape for most of the evening. And I will not screw with the grape and grain rule, as it usually ends in pain................................................... my pain that is!!

Well, I tasted my Wherry. Its has a very good head all the way to the bottom, the bitter flavour is as strong as it was when I bottled, the round flavours are starting to develop well, which are now complimenting the hoppy bitterness. I think another couple of weeks and it will be there, which will be good as it will be my birthday.
For a bottled beer it does not have too much fizz, so DaaB's 80grms was plumb bob on..... Cheers DaaB
I'm very happy that the beer is now clear with a good colour. The sediment is compacting down well as well.

I wasnt going to taste so soon, but the option to have a comparative test was too much of a temptation, and very worth while. I think if we meet again in this thread in a couple of weeks and then exchange tasting notes again.

i had some guests around last night and i had a few samples of about 6 kits left so i gave everybody a taste of them, the Wherry went down best it was liked by all but one person. The down side is they drank 12 litres of it!!!! with a little help from me. I must admit my first thoughts this morning were of my Wherry and the bastar** that drank it

Its now time to give my tasting and impressions on my Wherry that I bottled on the 14th of december.

The Wherry now has a really good round flavour, with hops hanging around in the mouth, the only thing is that there is still a slight yeast taste in the background. This is probably due to the fermentation sticking, and pitching a second yeast into the fermenter.

Whats interesting is head retention. there is differences between the different bottles that I have used, varying between 250ml-2l. The head retains better out of the 2l bottles than any other bottle, and also the flavour is less yeasty and is more like a pint of draught. I now need to get drinking more pop and harvest the bottles. :D

And for my first ever kit I am a really happy bunny :D

I have 12 bottles stashed away in the garage to compare over the next couple of months. So it will be interesting to see how the kit develops.
