Hop Query

Post by JayBee » Sat Sep 05, 2009 10:20 pm

Like one or two others I reckon I`ve gone as far as I can with kits and have decided to attempt my first extract brew.
I`m pretty happy with what I`m going to do for my first 10 litre brew but was not quite sure if I need to make adjustments in hop quantities. Assuming most of the recipes were based on leaf hops and I`ve been using pellets is there a formula or something that converts to allow for the use of pellets?

I've always used 1:1, it seems fine.

I should have added that when I started using Pellets, I had to start using a Paint Filter as a Hop Bag

The pellets break down into tiny paticles of hop that you cant sieve out after the boil!

Thanks JB. I`ve cut the leg off my 8 year old daughters tights and give them a good boil first. Seems to work great as a filter. Not sure if the missus has caught on yet. She`s probably still taking them back to the shop & trying to get a refund for faulty goods.
