Anyone for beer?? Friday 2 October 8pm.

Post by jubby » Thu Sep 24, 2009 8:14 pm

Another brewers evening out in Cambridge. We are growing slowly. Up to 12 potential takers, but usually end up with 7 or 8. Very informal, we just talk beer bo**ocks all night.

The venue is optional. We normally meet in the Kingston Arms off Mill Road, but there is the Cambridge Oktoberfest going on that weekend. So, traditional fine ales, or beers from the fatherland, it's an open vote to those who will be attending. The venue will be decided on Wednesday 30th depending on the vote results and I will pm everybody and post here.

Call me an old traditionalist, but for me it has to be the Kingston.

Oh, and don't forget your samples!! (Especially that coconut stuff Jabba)

Well as predicted the man with his latest "Norman Bates" dark mild will be there and as long as the Kingston doesn't have a Beer Festival on I'm up for that venue. I presume the Oktoberfest one will include German Style beers which are not my kind of thing too light and wheaty for my taste buds. I like em dark and flavoursome, full of bodies.

Anyone for a shower?

See you there and yes the Coconut beer is going to be interesting but I'm sure better than the poor options we had at our last beer festival.

Cheers

I'd be up for either venue, but own samples could be an issue at the Oktoberfest (i'd imagine)!

In previous years the Oktoberfest has been a traditional British beer fest in the most part, but for a couple of breweries who enter beers in the spirit of things, and the bottled beer corner. Would need to get there early to avoid queues - should this be the choice.

See you all wherever!

Kingston, I reckon. Tasting the beers you guys make is much more interesting than queueing up and getting fleeced for the pleasure.
I'll bring along a bottle of Santa's Little Helper. Christmas cake in a bottle...

That sounds good! I forgot to mention mine; it will be the Evil Twin again, as it's ready to drink this time.
Bishops Farewell is a bit bland due to dodgy hop pellets

Count me in guys, I'll bring along some Coconut Porter- it's just about done conditioning.

I'll also bring a bottle of the Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby- 'tis only just about drinkable and would appreciate pointers as to where it went wrong!

As to venue, the Kingston makes more sense I think than a busy beer fest.

See you there,
Jamie

Hi!

I'm a home brewer (a beginner) and I live just off mill road. Would anyone mind if I tag along?

I started brewing at the begining of this year and have been experimenting since. I can bring a few samples of what I loosely call beer :) (I'm sure none of it is poisonous). I wouldn't mind tasting what experienced home brewers can produce.

The Kingston is a great choice for me. How will I know who is who when I get there?

Drew.

Drew, it would be great to meet you, the more the merrier. It's always a bit of a laugh (especially when my beer is being tasted) nothing too serious.

I think it would be safe at this stage to confirm the Kingston arms as the venue. meeting at 8pm.

You will know who we are Drew, just look for the middle aged grey haired, slightly balding chaps carrying a little extra weight and wearing socks and sandles. Oh and the beards of course (maltloaf)

You can see what i look like on my first ever brewday post here: (the last photo) viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14605&hilit=+ruddles+county

Oi Jubby; my hair may show signs of going grey and I may wear socks with sandles (only round the house tho'), oh and a beer belly may be forming, OK I've not shaved for a while BUT I am most definitely NOT middle aged!!!

Beards? Plural?!
Ah, hold on. Things do tend to double up on these evenings...

Come along Drew, it's great tasting what other people make. Just don't look for a fatty with a beard - I'm not. Nor will I be wearing socks and sandles. Nor am I middle aged. In fact, what we need to do is get some fancy dress together to dress Jubby up - then he can be the stereotype he accuses us all of! Problem solved. :aarh:

Cheers,
ML.

It's fine with the Kingston as long as you ask nicely. We have been to one or two that refused though, that's one of the reasons we use this pub.
