Ringwood xxxx porter brewday.

Post by Horden Hillbilly » Sun Nov 22, 2009 5:13 pm

I decided to make this one my "winter brew", up bright & early today to do it. As it is from Graham Wheeler's new book no public recipe I'm afraid.

Image

Grains used on this brew.

Image

All mixed in now, hit a mash temp of 66.5c.

Image

Nice & cosy for 90 mins.

Image

Hlt with thermostat heating the sparge water.

Image

Hops, yeast & whirlflock at the ready.

Image

Getting set up for the sparging.

Image

Collecting the wort from the mash tun, straight into the boiler. This is a nice deep brown colour & it smells great!

Image

3 tier set up in action.

Image

A close up of the spinny sparger in action.

Image

Coming to the boil.

Image

Full steam ahead now, time to add the 1st batch of hops & switch one of the elements off.

Image

Cooling the wort.

Image

Areating & adding the yeast.

Image

All done, lid fitted loosely & temperature strip fitted over the handled to keep an eye on the room temp

I estimated an og of 1048 on this one, I ended up with 1047 & just below 24 litres.

That Ringwood is a cracking beer and also the subject of my fave beer photo of the year.
This is a pint of that very ale sitting on the back of our boat , moored in the back of beyond. It don't get much better...

I showed this picture to a guy I work with and he said "huh, you've been sold a short measure there. I'd ask for a top-up"....

Yeah, lazy man's brewing at its best! :D While that is doing its job, it is time for my 1st cuppa & cornflakes.
