Iam brewing one gallon of barley wine using two jars of malt extract from Holland and barrett and 11oz of sugar. I used a restart wine yeast and its been 4 weeks and still fermenting. Fast at first but now slowed down with now signs of stoping. How long should it take?

Most of the Barley Wine recipes I've encountered recommend 6 months secondary conditioning at least.

I suppose the primary fermentation depends mainly on temperature and how much fermentable extract was available. The final gravity will probably be around 1.020 by now.

Rack it to another demijohn and leave well alone for the above time if it is around 1.020

Thanks for that. I will rack it and leave it. If its still fermenting it cant be a bad thing.
