vaseline attack!!!
Hi all, I've just been cleaning out my budget PB and I've managed to get vaseline from the lid/thread into the actual vessel. I'd put too much on as I was paranoid about leaks, but now I'm paranoid about messing up my beer with vaseline! Any wise words on how to clean the thing thoroughly? My big fat man hand won´t fit into the 2 inch hole (even with all the lube!) Cue schoolboy jokes!!!

Re: vaseline attack!!!
Don't panic...I'd be more worried if the vaseline had fallen into the beer!
Fill the kettle half way and boil. Tiny amount of washing up liquid in the bottom of the FV, add the hot water and leave for 10 minutes. Good swill round and scrub where you can then tip water away. Fetch a hose pipe and rinse out with good blast of cold water...and steralise as normal.

Re: vaseline attack!!!
Being naturally clumsy, I once managed to drop a big lump of vaseline into a Corny I had just filled with a new brew. I couldn't get it out and assumed that the brew would be ruined. Four weeks later I tried the first pint, expecting the worst - and to my astonishment it was great, as was the rest of the beer. Vaseline and water (beer!) just don't mix and I reckon all this stuff you hear about the perils of mixing the two is mostly just a myth. So panic not.

Re: vaseline attack!!!
Thanks all - I feel nicely reassured
I'll take the kettle and washing up liquid advice and stop worrying. Very grown up responses by the way - not a vaseline joke in sight!

Isopropanol alcohol seems to work quite well as a solvent for vaseline (I just tested some), so if the washing up liquid doesn't work, soaking it in vodka should dissolve it.
