Damn .. love to come along but I don't finish work until after 6 in way up north, north london. I wouldn't get there until at least 7.30/8pm and that's even if I bypassed the missus and kids...

and I'm quite fond of my nuts.

I'll look out for further meets though and hopefully will be able to pop along in holiday time.

For those of you at the meeting, I have just found out that Carlsberg Special Brew was first brewed for Winston Churchill, I am told.

I am not gonna waste much more time on this, but it's kinda curiously interesting.

Special Brew

Special Brew is a very strong lager (sometimes known as premium lager) brewed in Denmark and the United Kingdom. It comes in a can with a distinctive gold and red colour.

Special Brew was first brewed by master brewer, Thomas Marfleet, and was brewed by Carlsberg to commemorate a visit to Denmark of Winston Churchill in 1950. In May 1951 two crates were delivered to Churchill's London home. In a thank you letter Churchill called the drink "Commemoration Lager". In Denmark the drink was called PÃ¥skebryg (Easter Brew), but the Easter Brew has been replaced by a weaker beer (Carls PÃ¥ske). For the British market Carlsberg called the drink Special Brew and production was started in Northampton in the 1950s.

At 9% alcohol, Special Brew is part of a group of strong lagers that are termed "super-strength" in the UK and malt liquor in the USA. Journalist Matt Weaver from the British newspaper The Guardian associates this beer with binge drinking amongst vagrants.[11].

Interesting. Thanks for following up and checking that out. :P

Seems as though it was originally brewed with good intention. I wonder if i tasted any better back then ...
