Hoegaarden
Re: Hoegaarden
It's not Hoegaarden but it's lovely! Tasty banana tastes and warming coriander aftertaste. I drink mine nice and cold and it's good. Nice slice of lemon brings out the citrus flavours too. Got another 40pints in a FV that i need to bottle up too!
Re: Hoegaarden
Sounds good. What recipe did you use?
I think I'm going to give this recipe another crack when I've got some space except with a few alterations.
I'm thinking:
Brewferm Tarwebier as a base
1 kg Wheat spray malt
250g Candi Sugar
20g Kent Golding Hops
20g Saaz Hops
1/2 teaspoon Coriander seed (powder)
20g Curacao peel
Safbrew WB-06 Yeast
Brew to 20 Litres
Same method as Orignal recipe :
Use a big stock pot to dissolve 1 kg of Wheat Malt in 3 litres of water then bring it to boil.
Then add coriander seed, orange peel and K. Golding hops. Boil for 15 minutes.
5 min before end of boil, add last bag of Saaz hop into pot.
Afterthat, turn off fire and remove all bags from pot. . Add Wheat beer into pot and stir. Transfer to fermenter and top up 23 litres mark with very cold water. Continue brewing in the normal way.
Any thoughts on this guys? I'm worried it might be too much wheat malt, should I go with half a kilo instead?
Cheers

Re: Hoegaarden
I made another Hoegaarden clone up.
10g Coriander seeds, crushed in pestle and mortar
0.5oz of EKG boiled for 15 mins
0.5oz Saaz boiled for 5 mins at end of EKG boiling
1kg of ELDSM disolved in water and boiled with the hops
40g of orange jest, chopped nice and fine.
1x Muntons Conneisur Wheat Beer kit
1x Safwheat S03 Yeast
I made this on the 12th May, dug the FV out tonight and tasted it from the FV. Oh my, it really is Hoegaarden!
I bottled 3 up with 3/4tsp of sugar per bottle and i's clearing already after an hour or so.

Had these kicking around for nearly 3 months... The Muntons wheat beer kit really is gorgeous, gagging to get another one on ASAP!
The flavour is more like Tucher, certainly the colour is too. The best brew i've made out of about 6 brews. Martin

Re: Hoegaarden
Hi, I haven't been here for a while but glad to see you are having fun with my recipe. I have made a few changes to my current recipe. I use Seville marmalade orange slices now, you can get them in most supermarkets costing about £2 for a years supply, I just put 1 tablespoon in the boil and gives an excellent cirtus bitterness with slight orange overtones. Be careful you can easily go to far with just half a tablespoon to much. Best to start with one and adjust to your own taste.
I use 2 kg Spray Wheat Malt
500g Light DME
500g Brewing sugar (Don't use candi sugar - unless you make it yourself)
Also, I now put just 20g of saaz in for the full 60 mins boil.
I love this brew, so easy/quick to make and very drinkable - maybe too drinkable
