UK HOME BREW DAVES 10 GALLON PLASTIC BOILER
UK HOME BREW DAVES 10 GALLON PLASTIC BOILER
Hello everyone,
Dave on the uk brew site uses a 10 gallon plastic boiler for his recipes, Does anyone know where I can get one, 5 gallon boilers are ok but when mashing 10 gallon would be nice. I would like to thank everyone that has got me back into mashing .
cheers

Try Hop & Grape. I got mine from them but have heard that the plastic buckets are now in short supply. Worth a try though.
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

I was in H&G earlier in the week, asking about boilers among other things... apparently the 10gal boilers are not available at the moment due to the availability of the containers.Horatio wrote:Try Hop & Grape. Fisherman, I did get my boiler from Hop & Grape a few years ago. Unfortunatly, the manufacturer changed the buckets & reduced the wall thickness from 3mm to 2mm & Hop & Grape don't consider them safe to be used as a boiler now.
Here is the full info from Hop & Grape about this.

Thanks dave and lads,
I am buying a insulated cool box mash tun which can take 10 kilo's of grain so I want 10 gallon a boiler to match, Seems sense. I may try and get a beer cask and get it cut and go gas. Plastic and elements seem so cheap.
Thanks

Re: UK HOME BREW DAVES 10 GALLON PLASTIC BOILER
Plastic buckets and kettle elements are cheap, that's the whole point for me! They do the job perfectly as long as the bucket is up to the job. I have a stainless keg that I converted with an element etc and a stainless burco HLT but I never use them as it is so much heavier to lug around on brewday! I use a 2mm walled 10g H&G type bucket as an HLT and a 3mm walled one as a boiler, both with two elements and thay work a treat and are very light to move when setting up and cleaning etc.fisherman wrote:Thanks dave and lads,

Don't get me wrong, shiny is great but no really needed at all IMHO. Although if I could have a permanently set up brewery it WOULD be shiny!

Re: UK HOME BREW DAVES 10 GALLON PLASTIC BOILER
I've got the newer <3mm bucket for my boiler and done 3 AG brews so far with no problems. The bottom does get soft and is out of shape but I make sure I boil outside and keep the area clear of kids and wives.
Famous last words? I hope not.

Safety first!
Sustained heating/cooling and the warping you've seen may ultimately lead to a weakening of the pot and even if there is a very remote chance of it failing during a full boil the consequences could be awful. Full thickness burns and the trauma of skin grafts and the like would be horrific.
A new stainless 50l pot off ebay would seem like a cheap £60 in the cold light of day and you'd be buying peace of mind.

EC60000 bottom of the page.
they do have UK distributors - if you call them, should be able to find one in your area
I've done umpteen boils in it with no hassle, but always treat boiling liquor with respect. I don't use a plastic tap or plastic tap connectors on the boiler, brass compression or solder only and I check the element and tap seals before each boil.
Having said that I've just upgraded to shiny at ~£60

Try Hamstead Brewing Centre

I bought the 10Gallon set up from there and the service from Chris was great.
