brewpacks holme valley special kit

Post by colgilbec » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:04 pm

Hi,
After trying quite a lot of different/various kits,I decided to splash out on the top of the range Brewpacks Holme Valley kit which was pricey at around the £23.50 mark to see if more expensive is really better.
This has finished fermenting from 1.052 to 1.008 , giving appx 5.9% which i,m impressed with, although a little on the strong side  .
Although still in the FV ,i,m itching to add an extra 12grm morgans pack of finishing hop pellets i have before bottling,or maybe it would overkill?.
Just wondering if anyone else has brewed this top end price range kit and what were the results?.

Not done that one, but have done the IPA which was as expensive once I added the dme. Most expensive beer kit I've ever done, the strongest in alcohol and the worst tasting, ending up tipping it down the sink.

I'd be tempted to lay off any hop additions/changes until you know what it's supposed to taste like when done to the manufacturers instructions, especially as it's a very pricey kit.

I'd be inclined to echo that, adding extras can upset the balance especially if adding fermentables. give it a try as it is and see if you feel that it needs changing.
