I have a mate who has been to Australia recently and all he keeps going on about it Tooheys gold and how nice it was. He was drinking the commercially brewed version rather than a kit, but I have noticed you can buy the kit version in the UK. Does anyone have any experience of brewing one of these?
Cheers,

I did a Tooheys lager kit a while back and wasn't that impressed. Personnaly I prefer the Coopers stuff, but that's not to say you shouldn't give them a go. Everyone's tastes are different.
Re: Tooheys
I'm pretty sure my dad drinks that ... but at least he openly admits that its "pensioner piss" ... in that it's just about the cheapest beer you can buy here (less tax on mid-strength beer).mrrm1st wrote:I have a mate who has been to Australia recently and all he keeps going on about it Tooheys gold and how nice it was.
However other than that it's much like Fosters, nobody (who likes decent beer and is in their right mind) drinks it here.
Each to their own, but check with your mate and ask if it was 'nice' becasue it was 'nice and cheap', or if he actually liked how it tasted.

Coopers on the other hand is a different story.

Spot on Wolfy
Every trip back I try any new or recently available Oz brews. With the advent of Golds, the mid strength market has improved for those who want Bat's Pish. But if you want proper flavour from Aussie style beers, you need full strength IMO.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will try a few other kits before I get around to a Tooheys.
Re: Tooheys
You've lots to look forward to next time ... the latest commercial fad is low carb blonde bland tasteless mid strength lagers ... if it was not for the craft-brewing scene you might end up drinking water.Beer O'Clock wrote:Every trip back I try any new or recently available Oz brews.
