Is there a way of knowing which hops go with which?

Get advice on making beer from raw ingredients (malt, hops, water and yeast)

Anchor Porter is probably my favourite porter too, but the Cascade flavour is subtle to almost non-existent. It also tastes like it has a tonne of dark crystal which I really like.

I think Brewdog Zeitgeist is a good example of a bad beer that blends roasted malts with too many US varieties.

For an excellent black IPA or 'Cascadian Dark Ale' (I refuse to take that name seriously) try Hopworks Secession Black IPA. The roasted malts are way in the background.

Hi Mysterio,

The 'clone' recipe I've seen uses about 450g (60L) Crystal and about the same of munich...
The cascades are subtle but there is definately something interestingly 'hoppy' going on in there...

@ lancssteve:

I really like Bramling X- but then I grew up drinking beers (mainly Yorkshire based brweries) that used it in one form or another...
As you say its is a matter of personal taste...

I personally dislike Bodacia and avoid most of Adnams brews as they use it in a few of their beers...

If we all liked the same thing then the big breweries would just try to cleverly market the same insipid P*ss to everyone everywhere (and get away with it)...
:shock:

Oh , wait hang on... :?
:lol:

I think thats the reason alot of us got into brewing - to make beers the way WE like them! (at least its one of many reasosn I started)
:=P
Cheers!

:D
