2 Questions

Post by Noodles 09 » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:10 pm

Hello first post and just in the midst of my first kit. Just got to the final fermenting stage so looking ahead to storage!!

My beer is now kegged and has just moved into a cooler area for conditioning. Im going to give it another 2 weeks before cracking into it.

Now for the 2 questions!!!

1. Can I drink halfway down my keg and then bottle the rest??

2. I have my beer kegged in a youngs pressure keg with a tap in it. I want to buy a bottling stick but can I use this with the tap being in the keg already??

No doubt your answers will lead to more questions but at least it will get my post count going ;-)

1 Depends on the type of tap on your keg, if its a lever tap that swings side to side then you might be able to use a bottling stick. If its a barrel tap then its doubtfull.
2 you can bottle from your keg, but how good the beer will be is debatable as you will no doubt induce some oxidisation as you bottle up.

So I should have bottled it after the first fermentation then rather than kegging it straight away?

Hi,
What people normally do if they want to keg and bottle the same batch of beer would be to rack from your FV into the keg containing the priming sugar, and then syphon off however much you want into bottles from the keg. Then you'll have your secondary fermentation take care of your carbonation in both keg and bottles.
Hope that helps.
