Fermentation Query

Post by pubmann » Sun Feb 20, 2011 3:44 pm

Hi everyone
I am new to this Homebrew stuff, but going to attempt my first AG brew tomorrow :)
Just wondering once all is brewed and transferred into the FV I will leave the brew until the gravity has fallen to 1009 - 1012 ish. The question is do I stir the brew each day or will this lead to me creating too much air and possibly resulting it a 'flat' beer come racking?
Any help and advice most welcome :?
Thanks in advance

What yeast are you using, some yeast seem to benefit through rousing. Generally speaking I tend not to rouse.

Hi Pubmann , once you have pitched your yeast ensuring first you have well aeriated the wort i would personally only touch the FV to take SG readings . Monitor your gravity and when it hits 1012 switch your coolers on or move outside if you have no coolers and if you want to add auxillary finings . Once its cooled down rack beer of to settling keg / pressure keg leave for a couple of weeks and presto you will be drinking your first proper ale ! Good luck

Thanks all, I will leave well alone except for taking readings.
Hardest part not sampling it too early.

Make sure everything is 100% sterilized which comes into contact for reading your FG, do not keep opening your FV, you could get a infection in your barm. I never take a reading if the air-lock has activity. Richard
