Re: Time taken to sparge/run off ?
I do batch sparges and I found that the second sparge went much quicker last time.
I think that my slow sparges are semi stuck and needs disturbing then recirculating to speed them up.

Re: Time taken to sparge/run off ?
I fly sparge and brew 23lts, most sparges take at least 30mins.
Re: Time taken to sparge/run off ?
My thoughts:
Increased grain bed depth will make for a longer run off.
Also, you have increased your brew length so it will take you longer to collect more wort, surely?
Are you sparging at a cooler temperature?
Of course the aliens will have an effect; are you daft or something?

An hour is just a bit slow rather than way out but I also reckon it's the aliens.

Re: Time taken to sparge/run off ?
I upped to 45L and then 90L in the same mash tun, and also expeienced an increase in fly sparge time, though mine was slightly less than double. I've got a stainless false bottom which hasn't changed (and it wasn't distorted) so without much else to cause it i'm putting the extra time down to the grain bed being deeper - further to filter through and also more compacted towards the bottom.
But that theory was before the possibility of Aliens came up..
