Late hops

Post by markf » Fri May 13, 2011 11:29 am

Hi all
I'm planning my diary for my first all grain brew days, and whilst looking for a Summer Ale recipe,I found one that gives the hop schedule as;

40g First Gold - 15 minutes
20g Bobek - 10 minutes
30g First Gold - 5 minutes
20g Bobek - flameout

Can anyone confirm that this is correct please, as in my extract days I've always had hop schedules that give boiling for 90mins with at least one variety

Assuming a few things here but that would seem OK to me.

Assuming that you are brewing 23 Litres

With 5Kg of Pale Malt you will have an OG of roughly 1050

If your First Gold has an AA of 8.3% and your Bobek has an AA of 4.5% that hop schedule should give you an IBU of about 35, which would be fine for a Summer Ale

I just quickly plugged the numbers into Graham Wheeler Beer Engine to work that out for me.

Thanks for the reply. Just gone back through my records and found that the recipe came from this site a while ago as
SUMMER GOLD
23l

4500g Pale Malt
250g Crystal Malt
250g Torrified Wheat

40g First Gold - 15 minutes
20g Bobek - 10 minutes
30g First Gold - 5 minutes
20g Bobek - flameout

If this works then its going to be at the top of the list.
