Re: recipe for sloe whiskey needed
My sloe gin is 1lb sloes, 1 pint gin and 6oz sugar. I'm making "Brammle" at the moment, which is a guesstimate experiment as I can't find a recipe. I've used 1 litre of whisky, 500gm of blackberries and I'll probably start the sweetening with something like 150gm's of honey (they probably didn't have refined sugar in Scotland when it was first tried/made - so honey is the logical sweetener).

I made Sloe vodka last year, came out nicer than the usual gin version IMO, but also regularly make things like raspberry or cherry vodka etc when I see nice fruit on sale in the supermarket.
My general 'recipe' is:
Approx 400g of whatever fruit (skins pierced if a hard skin), 250g sugar, 1 litre of whatever spirit.
I put it in a 2 litre kilner jar, shake everyday for the first week and then once a week thereafter.
Hard skinned fruits like plums, sloes, cherries etc take about 3 months, but soft fruits like raspberries are done in about a month.
