HPA clone and colour

There is a HPA clone recipe based on golden promise pale malt and wheat malt.

I have done similar recipes of all golden promise and the colour seems considerably darker than the pints of this i have in the pub.

is that somehow down to process, or is the comercial version using something different ? or sourcing a very pale , pale malt that i as a home brewer do not have access to ?
