Hey there my wife came home with a car boot full of apples today, told her a few days ago that i wouldnt mind trying to make a cider. Thing is im still new to the beer making job so cider is a little out my league at this moment,

but im going to give it a shot anyway ive made myself a pulper today and got myself a fruit press as well so all im after now is the advice, and any other top tips from the top pocket would be great if possible. Cheers

My cider has gone orange in colour and really cloudy and smells is that normal. Or has it gone off as its made from fresh apples.

I think the change in colour is OK as that, afaik, is the tannins in the apple reacting with air, (same as when you chop up an apple it turns brown if left for a few minutes), The cloudyness is normal as well.
Smell all depends on what it smells of?

Ive spoke to steve at the Happy brewer in bedford and he said that it has oygenated and i should just rack it in the demijohns leave till tomorrow and see if it starts back up if not add some yeast and it should be ok in 4 to 6 days. So thats what ive done i will have to wait and see if it goes petetong then i will get rid and and try again with juice from Lidl.

The father in law has ended up with exactly the same problem. Things were looking good at first. The pressed juice was quite cloudy to start with but just thought this was normal. We added three campden tablets to the juice and let it stand overnight. There was quite a lot of sediment settled the next day so we syphoned the juice off this into a fresh FV before adding a teaspoon of pectolase, teaspoon of yeast nutrient and the cider yeast. The pectolase seemed to be doing a great job with the juice starting to clear pretty well. 48 hours later and the brew has gone a cloudy orange colour and is giving off an odour I can best decribe as very mild sulphur. We did our best to keep everything sterile all through the process but It looks like we have made a balls up somewhere.
Hard work collecting that juice too!

As i said it had got oxgen in it but ive now racked it into demijohns and added 2 teaspoons of sugar and half of yeast into each, there still orange in colour but thats normalso im told ive look at some pictures and read some articles and they all say the same, all im doing know is letting them finish of in the demijohns before putting them out in the garage to clear and then bottle them bad boys, smell has gone now and it just smells like it will blow my head off when i have a taste, still i hope it turns out ok same as you said hard work getting all that dam juice.
