200L Brewery (The new, NEW plan)
Re: 200L Brewery
Well after nearly securing a new place to house the brewery its fallen through at the 11th hour so i`ve decided
that i`m going to cut the vessels down to fit in the shed to make it easier to use in there, what i`m aiming for is
to cut them down so i can brew 27 Gallon (123 Ltrs) at a time.
By my calculations i would need to cut the HLT and Boiler down by 400mm but i would just like someone to double check
my calculations before i put cutting disk to stainless.
The tanks are 500mm Dia by 1350mm tall at the moment but if i reduce them to 850mm tall i reckon the capacity should be
167 ltrs giving me 44 ltrs of head space in the boiler
as 500mm x 850mm should give a volume of 166964.2 Cubic Centimeters which is near enough 167 ltrs ?
If i`m correct in my calculation they will fit a lot better and i wont need to find alternative premises to brew.
Any comments are most welcome.

Volume = hPr^2
Volume = 85 x 3.142 x 25^2
Volume = 85 x 3.142 x 625
Volume = 85 x 1963.5
Volume = 166897.1cc
looks about right to me...

Seems a real shame to cut 'em down.
There must be another solution.

Yeah but the alternatives are sell them as they are or rent somewhere thats big enough but will cost me money, money which i dontboingy wrote:Seems a real shame to cut 'em down.

have after renting the last place, so after a few months of trying to find somewhere for nothing which i almost did, i`ve decided that to chop
them down a bit is the cheaper option, plus it means i can still brew 3 firkins at a time instead of the intended 5 so not a big loss really.

Your not going to struggle for fermenter space should you become busy are you? Just a thought, though maybe one to worry about later

Re: 200L Brewery (The new plan)
That is a bit of a concern but the wife said she doesnt object to the fermenters being in the hallway if things get going a bit, its a little impractical but possible, hopefully though it wont come to that i should have enough room for 2 in the shed and if i work it correctly shouldn`t need more than that, well not for now anywaypdtnc wrote:Your not going to struggle for fermenter space should you become busy are you? Glad to see that thigs are progressing Mark. If it's any use to you as a fermenter, I've still got that food grade 220lt drum - it had lime juice in it so I'd probably suggest a citra based brew first

Re: 200L Brewery (The new plan)
Well after some more calculations and jiggery pokery i can now cut the vessels down by just 1 firkin, so the brewery
will go from 1 1/4 barrels down to just 1 barrel, so even better than first thought, i`m putting tomorrow night and
Saturday aside to make a start on re-jigging stuff.

Well yesterday after work i modified all the stands so they all now have heat sheilds, then today the point
of no return, i cut the tanks down cleaned them all up again and installed them back in the shed, and dismantled the 60ltr
brewery to make room for this one, the next job is to strip down the pumps give them a good clean and then get everything wired back up,
depending on whats happening tomorrow hopefully i`ll have time to do it, as i`m aiming for the first brewday to be 2 weeks today or tomorrow.
i`ll take some photos tomorrow but i`ve now got to make an Indian for some friends that are coming round tonight so havn`t got time now.

Re: 200L Brewery (The new, NEW plan)
Well since March i brewed a few brews on the setup but quickly realised that the shed although big enough to brew in is not ideal for fermentation or anything else, so i stopped brewing on it until i could come up with somewhere better,
Since June i`ve teamed up with the Landlord of my local and his mate and we have been planning to set the brewery up properly up at the pub,
with local planning being what it is it was going to be a right royal pain in the arse to get planning to brew on the pub premises, so we`ve opted to install
a temporery structure outside as this requires no planning permission
the structure was finally in place on Friday, so this weekend will see the movement of the brewing vessels and hopefully within the next couple of weeks i should be finally setup and ready to brew on it again.
If i knew it was going to take this long to get set up properly i still would have gone through with it as its been my dream to set this up for ages now and i still feel exited about the whole thing which is good considering it was 2 years ago since i bought the vessels, and its been knockback after knockback but i`ve always remained positive that i would get it up and running one day, somewhere.
So hopefully there will be quite a few updates in the coming weeks.

Great stuff Haz66! I heard on the grapevine something along those lines so was pleased to hear you confirm it. Let us know the pub, since I've been brewing at chez Skiptonians more often than not I could drive the extra 3 miles on the way over for a taster when it's on tap
and as Polymoog - GET SOME PICS ON
ps - what beer d'jour will be on tap? or have you not christened it yet?
