Re: Brupaks BOTW Old London Porter
I didn't bother with any readings, sorry - my hydrometer hits the bottom on the smaller fv at the end of fermentation. It got started nice and quick and was in the FV for 2 and a half weeks so I reckoned it was done.
Re: Brupaks BOTW Old London Porter
Yeah I have the same problem, I think I'll syphon a bit off into a trial jar though before I bottle just to be sure.
Re: Brupaks BOTW Old London Porter
Well I just bottled this brew and it's gorgeous! I could drink it straight away, should be superb in a few weeks!
Re: Brupaks BOTW Old London Porter
Quick update, this tasted fantastic straight from the FV, loads of layers of flavour, very complex and slightly fruity with a touch of liquorice.
Four weeks later I'm a little disappointed! It's still good and I'd brew it again but the flavours have blended and it's lost a lot of it's complexity. I guess it's still relatively young though, maybe it'll get better again after a few more weeks.

It's weird how some of the good things in a brew can get lost with conditioning
I am sure that you will still enjoy it mate!
Next step is a BIAB Porter

Oh it won't go to waste I promise!
It's still a very nice pint, if I were served it in a pub I'd be more than happy it's just that it hasn't lived up to my expectations when I bottled it.
Actually I was eyeing the GW Fullers London Porter recipe and thinking about BIAB, looks very tempting and the Fuggles fit in with my plans for an Adnams Old recipe I'm formulating based on Hydes Dark Mild.
So far I still haven't managed to find a day to do my Summer Ale BIAB
Maybe next week as the pressures of work are easing up now.

Re: Brupaks BOTW Old London Porter
I would definitely recommend the way I did my last BIAB.
I mashed on a Friday evening, then removed the grain bag, and boiled first thing on the Saturday morning.
I shall be using the same method tomorrow night for the Southwold Bitter attempt
