Coopers Stout question.

Post by Coppertone » Wed Mar 21, 2012 5:48 pm

Hi,
I am looking to brew a Coopers Stout with my only supplier being Tesco Direct so that I dont have to pay delivery charges.

The thing is, tesco direct only have coopers beer enhancer 1 and 2 available. Would it be ok to mix the stout with enhancer 1 or 2?

Plus, when bottling this kit can you add some priming sugar to gain a bit of carbonation (make it like a guiness extra stout) or is it best left uncarbonated?

Thanks,
Kevin.

I know ideally I would be using DME but just wanted to know if it would turn out ok with the enhancer as I could get all I needed from Tesco's. Otherwise I will be paying hefty delivery charges from online brew shops. Or can I get DME from any
high street shops or supermarkets.

Just order 65 quids worth and get free delivery. You'll use it all!

Copperstone...get some Holland & barrett LME...couple of jars and 400g sugar will do it a treat. Plus, I think they have a buy one get one half price on everything in store atm. It's food grade but I've used it before with good results in a stout. In fact, I use food grade LME in most brews these days.

Seconded on the H&B Malt Extract. I use it all the time now. Basic recipe I use is Kit + 1kg BKE (50/50 malt/brewing sugar) + 1 jar or H&B.

Make a lovely brew. About 3 weeks to condition should be about right.

Tesco do sell Coopers light DME but @£6 per 500g :o
I think Coopers themselves recommend BE1 though.

And that's actually very sound advice.

I'll further it by adding that, £65 worth or not, slinging Shane a fiver, to get what ever ye want delivered to ye, would be a bloody site less hassle than wringing ye hands and asking a pack of case hardened piss heads how to save a couple of bob. Here's Shane. Ye quite safe with him. Ye can tell him I said so. And say Hi, from me.

Meanwhile; What are ye drinking, while ye wrestle with this fiver? Where are ye getting it and what's it costing ye? I know that running out of my stuff costs me a Tenner a day. Whole months worth of 'kit' only costs me just over the ton.

No. It really does sound suspiciously like ye just have to consider the bigger picture

I made mine with 1Kg Amber DME and a large mug of demerara sugar, bottling it tonight with about 60g of sugar, hopefully enough to keep a head but minimal fizz. Tastes good straight out of the FV though!

Nice to see you back Ditch
