Russian Imperial Stout

Thanks for the info. I seem to have a missing Acronym chromosome or something, because I never get them.

As it happens I brewed a RIS last month. I went for a smaller batch of 3 gallons and I plan to leave most of it (say 2 gallons) for a year in demi johns. The other gallon I will bottle and consume at xmas.

Yup, made up a small 19ltr of a "tester" dark stouty ale, added oak chips with JD to a 60g to 60g ratio, bought 8 bottles of 200ml coke (went well with a smidge of the appleton rum) and used them for tester bottles, I did a slight carbonation on it and used 35g of sugar.

Tested a couple as its only just under a month in the bottle, the oak is coming through well, and is showing as a nice winter warmer already, not a session type though, maybe a "share a bottle" type, nice, but you wouldnt want a lot :)

brew on, lee

Got about 25gms of French oak chips in Teachers ready for my next RIS. Left them in a jar for around two months and they've soaked up a fair bit of whiskey.
Fermenting -!
Maturing - Lenin's Revenge RIS
Drinking - !
Next brew - PA
Brew after next brew - IPA

yup, mine were in for 3 month from Feb, i originally did 60g oak to 30ml JD, the JD dissappeared into it within a couple of weeks, so doubled that, no taste of JD has come through though, well, 60ml in about 15 or so ltr won't :)

Probably have to chuck half litre of it at it to realise a whiff of whiskey :)
