Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
Hi guys sorry for beginner question it’s my second kit. I just got the Brewferm Abdij kit along with 500 g. of Muntons dry Dark malt extract. My question is, can I add 500 g. malt extract together with the same amount of sugar? Or do 50/50 or not at all. Thank you for your time.

Very nice choice
needs a VERY long condition before drinking tho - expect 4-6 months before its reached maturity.
BrewFerm kits work very well with golden syrup - its a very good substitute for belgian candi sugar. As they go, belgians are designed to be brewed using 100% sugar as a general rule, so although its not wrong to use malts (i have with good results with light DME using their tripel kit) then I'd consider using 100% golden syrup and keep the dark malt back for a stout kit (coopers or muntons harvest) .

Re: Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
Thanx a lot for the quick answer. Will try the syrup.
Re: Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
I've always brewed this kit with candi sugar, but recently brewed it with dark LME.
I'm hoping that it will still be a killer beer

You could try direct from the St Peters site but might be a bit on the expensive side

Re: Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
Anyone remember the percentage of sugar in golden syrup? e.g. if the recipe asks for 750g sugar, and you use golden syrup instead, then you need something like about 850g golden syrup to get 750g worth of sugar...Pinto wrote:I'd consider using 100% golden syrup

Re: Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
120-125% of dry weight IIRC (well, thats what I use for all my brews) - 1kg of sugar > 1200-1250g of GS. Treat it like using liquid or spray malt

Re: Brewferm Abdij and dry malt extract.
I did this kit with golden sugar and it has been in the pressure barrel for over a month now. I tried it this weekend and it tasted off but a post above suggests that it needs 4-6 months, could it still be green?
