I've learnt the hard way recently that force carbonating beer is more trouble than its worth. 0'C beer, 30PSI and ruffley ten min of rocking the corny and you don't know where you are!
However; I don't have a permanent Kegerator, I have a big fridge and an understanding misses (To a point) so I can chill for a few days but I cant leave the keg in there solid for two weeks while it slowly carbonates (accuratly).
I was thinking I might use a Hybrid method; use the fridge to chill the Beer to about 5 deg. Give it 30 PSI for 5 min shaking etc. then let the pressure out of the Keg. Reset to 13PSI and leave in the fridge for another day with occasional. shaking.
Do you think I'd hit my vol in two days?
Accurate(ish) force carbonation of beer
Re: Accurate(ish) force carbonation of beer
An easy/popular way to force carbonate is outlined here (in detail/pictures/videos) on the AHB forums:
http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/i ... opic=10667
Basic details: Chill keg, set the regulator to 40-45PSI, turn on gas and shake keg for 50seconds.
Turn off the CO2 at the bottle, continue to shake and watch the pressure gauge drop and stabilise.
Repeat as required until the gauge 'drop' stops at pressure required for your carbonation settings.
It takes only a few minutes and allows you to carbonate to the level you want.
