Cooper's Irish Stout verdict ....
Cooper's Irish Stout verdict ....
I bottled this on Sept 12th....
Cooper's Irish Stout kit + 1Kg Munton's Dark DME + 300g Cane Sugar, topped up to 20L.
Not quite a Ditch's Stout I know, but pretty near.
And the taste ...?
Malty, very malty. I guess the extra 500g of malt is responsible for that.
Not unpleasant, and it definitely improves after the first couple of sips...

Re: Cooper's Irish Stout verdict ....
I should add that this is my second Cooper's Irish, I brewed the first to Cooper's own 'Stouter Stout' recipe:
Cooper's Irish Stout kit + Cooper's Brew Enhancer 2, brewed to 18L.
That one took a while to come good, but after that it was very nice.
I guess patience is the key here....

Funny, that, Mo06. Ye've practically done a " Ditch's " with the Irish, look. Bottled it, granted, but that's your way. Yet, ye sound 'restrained' about it .....
Most people tend to be. I was.
Strange. They market the Irish as their premium product. Yet, made up even identically, the straight stout knocks the socks off it.

Re: Cooper's Irish Stout verdict ....
Evening Ditch, the obvious step is to purchase the Cooper's Origial Stout kit & do a back-to-back comparison.
I used to drink this stuff on a regular basis, now THAT was a decent drink...

I've done so. Though, I downed the one FV. Then got amongst the next. Preferred the basic.Mo06 wrote:The obvious step is to purchase the Cooper's Original Stout kit & do a back-to-back comparison.
What I'd like to do would be drink a pint of each, right there and then. Both in front of me.
That'll never happen though. Because I simply couldn't be arsed to buy and make a whole Irish kit. Just to prove my personal opinion of my own tastes right, to myself

Bonders; If I just sat back and encouraged people to send me beer? I'm sure I'd have an FV standing idle
As it is ~ and as I've, time and again, had to gently break to well meaning people ~ the shipping costs into Eire are simply f**king ridiculous!
No. I'm content to sit here and read peoples opinions.
Of course, I'd like to sample any number of beers I get told of here. As ye've found though; It's just not viable. Shipping far outweighs the cost / value of the beer, 99.9% of the time.
Sh!t I have to put up with, for living in near as heaven

Yep with tesco stopping selling coopers I'd thought I'd look into other alternatives like wilkos and I'd ship a bottle out to Eire made me postively sick it would honestly be cheaper for me to jump on a Ryan air plane and hand deliver it to you
