Anyhows, back to the subject in hand, I've used plastic barrels for fourteen years now and not had any problems but I do have the more expensive king keg and the old boots type, for my money they are well worth investing in if you are on a budget, put them in a cool place and use a hambleton bards cylinder rather than the bulbs and you get a good level of carbonation for bitters, stouts etc but lager would probably call for a corny keg.

It's quite ironic, really. Because I personally use what I'd take to be the self same BK's that Wilko's sell. White plastic? I don't know if they have a makers name on them anywhere. Or any other identifying marks? Anyone noticed?

But, yeah. Have a load of them Used them to death. Never yet had any of the many problems others appear to be constantly encountering.

Frankly, I've always put a lot of it down simply to my handling the lids gently. I perceive it that most people get grief with the lid seals? I'm sure a lot of that's down to trying to twist them on so they'll never come off again! Image

Yeah, I think I damaged my two budget type kegs by over tightening them, I cut out holes in the top of my lids and use an airlock instead, use them to mature my soured beers in now.

Now that is funny!

But a good point, I have split two seals on the budget pressure barrels trying to tighten them up.
Knowing when to stop has never been my strong point...

Yeah, I think if your a bit cack handed, like me, with stuff like that go for the bottom tap king kegs, I would recommend the boots pressure barrel but I think there discontinued now, also the larger diameter top means you can clean it more easily. I would have cornies if I had the money but the top line plastic kegs are worth an investment, I've used my two boots ones for 14 years with no problem.

Wow thanks for the advice and the entertainment in this thread. Full corny setup on its way just need to find a gas bottle supplier.
