Leaking keg - help!

Hi all,

I have a brew fermented and in a king keg bottom tap - since the secondary fermentation has started and the pressure has increased the tap has started leaking - not massively - but small drips - enough to soak a towel underneath. :cry:

Ideally I'd like to leave it in there for another 4/5 weeks before drinking it. Should I relieve some pressure by unscrewing the lid for a few seconds?

Or is it possible to transfer it to another keg where I know the tap is reliable at this stage? It's been in the keg for a couple of weeks now?

Or should I just drink the thing asap!!!

You can ease the pressure by gently displacing that band around the outside of the valve below the thread, you may need to only release a small quantity of gas. Moving the keg to somewhere slightly cooler will result in the beer absorbing more of the CO2 although the pressure might rise again as CO2 is produced. Have yourself a pint, that will help too.
Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

+1 to all of Eric's comments. Moving to a cooler area can dramatrically reduce abount of gas pressure as CO2 is far more soluble at low temps.

BTW: Had brew totally finished brewing before you moved to barrel &
how much conditioning sugar did you add to the beer when you transferred to the barrel?

I don't think I used any more sugar than normal - and it had definately finished given the readings I got and the length of time I left it. My mistake was probably giving it a quick input of CO2 after kegging to try and prevent any oxygen after transfering from FV - I think that intitial pressure was too much for the tap (which was probably not on tight enough to begin with).

It is still quite warm so will remove to the shed and hope for the best in the New Year!

If it is warm and just a weep it will likely take up with just a few degrees drop in temperature, so don't let it get too cold.
Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.
