I have a gravity feed HLT that I usually have close to 50 litres in it and above head height so impossible to lift. I currently boil my initial liquour then pump it up to the HLT with a little solar pump (search on here for advice), that will deal simply an cheaply with that problem.froggi wrote: Just means the hot wort needs to be pumped back up (unless I'm feeling strong at the time) into the fv, although I suppose if I create a tier-system but that carries inherent problems re getting water to the top tier.

Cheers Orlando... Good advice, will take it onboard to think about during my design and subsequent build but as previously posted, I'm on a real tight budget so extraneous expense is not really factored in... Cash strapped and thirsty is not a good combination
Re: Stainless thermobox
Ok guys... Enquired with Bergland this morning, a price for a 60 ltr thermopot and have been quoted just shy of £75 ..... Anyone's opinion in the know, is this a good price??
Cheers in advance for the feedback

Re: Stainless thermobox
Is that delivered? What do you reckon the cost of conversion will be?

Re: Stainless thermobox
I emailed them over the weekend and got a reply this morning for a quote on a 50 litre one and with a euro to pounds conversion it came in at £67 delivered give or take a bit for whatever my bank/Paypal would convert it to.
Re: Stainless thermobox
Hi again all.... Cost of item is inclusive of delivery
Conversion ??? You mean currency conversion or cost of converting the Thermopot??
Not sure about the costs of the rest of the hardware required, I need to go through some past posts to check out stuff and source the items.

Re: Stainless thermobox
Might be worth checking out the price of the 70l as it has the tap built in. Not a ball value I gather but should be OK at least in the short run. It should work out cheaper than the 60l with having to get the hole cut and buying a ball valve.
Best wishes
Dave

Re: Stainless thermobox
Thanks Dave.... Problem, the increased cost of the 70ltr is not viable as I'd want to replace the tap and add a bulkhead fitting as soon as I'd be able to source one and the tap is a side mounted fitting. I want to fit a base fitted drain but thanks for that input

Intended to buy just a thermo pot from them...i ended buying 2 x 100ltr pots and 1 x 70ltr thermo with tap and converted myself, came in at 225 euros just for the shiny and prolly best part of £80 converting if you factor in tools for the job..but hey..its shiny, it will last and I MADE IT

Re: Stainless thermobox
Cheers.. i think i will need all the good luck i can muster.. Im a metal working newbie. having brewed in plastic kit to this date... please forgive the possibly stoopid Q But.. one thing i could use advice on is drilling thru SS, for pilot holes or with hole saws. everything i have read says drill slowly, with cooling oil, OK what exactly does drill slowly mean? my 18v combi drill has 2 speeds 1 and 2, also it has a variable speed depending on the pressure on the trigger switch. do i drill on full pressure on speed setting one, or do i drill as slow as possible with minimal pressure on the trigger switch??? surely if i concentrate on my trigger pressure i could loose focus on the drill position and squirting the coolant??? or is that just the knack of drilling SS?? thing is i would hate to make a mess of it cos i was focusing on my trigger pressure unnecessarily and let the dril wander leaving a visible scar to remind me of my stoopidity ...froggi wrote:Some people just have no control.....lol...
