2nd Brew questions

Post by dunjenkeepa » Wed Jan 30, 2013 9:03 pm

Hi all, I have my second brew in the Fermenting barrel at the moment - it's a Wherry Bitter 4.5% from Wilkinsons. My first brew was a Yorkshire Bitter Kit and I bottled it after about 2 weeks with a final stable reading of 1.005 (in the yellow) on the hydrometer (it was excellent BTW, better than some bought beers!).

My second brew has been in the barrel for about 2.5 weeks now (underfloor heating keeps the room temperature 18deg to 21deg at all times) and I've had a constant reading of about 1.008 (still in the black) on the hydrometer and it doesn't look like it is gonna shift anymore. Is it ok to bottle now or should I leave it a bit longer ?

Many thanks !

Sounds perfect to me mate. As long as the reading is stable you're good to go any time after the 2 week mark. 1008 is a result, not going to get much better than that, other than your bitter. 1010 or lower is great. Might have to get some underfloor heating!!

My wherry which finished fermenting last Saturday only got to 1.010 so 1.008 sounds ok to me ;) my fish tank heater does not sound so plush compared to underfloor heating.
