I used a pound (454g) of Blackstrap molasses in a Porter recipe (based around a John Bull kit). The only thing I could taste in the brew was molasses. Next time I'll keep to about 100g, the flavour just obliterates everything else and never mellowed. Even chilling it to the point that my tongue went numb while drinking could not dull the flavour. About the only thing in favour of that brew was that was the colour; it was so black it made Guinness look like a lager shandy. It looked great, but as Ditch has often remarked; we don't drink with our eyes.Nigel1969 wrote:The molasses taste got stronger, I tipped it all down the drain. 30 pints of bitter treacle. Lesson learned.
It took me over a year to force myself to drink it all, but I just could not bring myself to throw it away.
Happy brewing,
Ian.
