you might wanna sit down before reading....

But i have had my first EVER coopers yeast fail!

Started an IPA on Wednesday, hoped it would be going by tonight, the stout I did at the same time HAD started with the usual coopers gusto, but the IPA was as dead as a dodo :(

anyhow, I have 2 other coopers kits on the shelf so i pinched the yeast out of a stout kit (I will drop this kit on the cake of the one that's on now :D) and made a yeast starter... 2 Tbsps house sugar in a pint glass, add water at around 35°C and chucked the yeast in.. stirred and half hour later it had gone off like a rocket, spewing out of the bloody pint glass! :D :D :D

Ive added that to the Dead wort, and now that seems to be finally fermenting, although a little slow.... hmmmmm....

hopefully i have saved it, but it seems VERY strange as this stuff is normally uber reliable!

My thoughts, exactly. Making half a dozen at a time up, I've often enough caught myself thinking; " Hang about ..... Which one does This go in ....? "

I can well imagine anyone slinging the yeast into the same one of two identical buckets. A passing thought distracts our focus for a moment and there we are. Shit's happened.

Not possible, i make each kit up separately, and always finish one completely before starting the next!

the buckets are neither identical, nor were they the same beer! this is a genuine case of yeast failure! as i said above mate, I do each kit completely separately and methodically to make sure i don't mix stuff up!

Anyhow, the addition of the starter has made it go like the clappers! so all is well that ends well, I just cant get over the failure!

Well, I guess this shall just become then the thread that illustrates, for the record; 'The exception that proves the rule'.

I mean, had ye come in here saying; " My Wherry has stuck " ? Place would be like: " No ...?!? "

That said? It's still spooky. Like; Why should this ONE sachet of yeast fail? Why? Not made by the sachet, is it? That bare teaspoon of yeast that failed, for you, would have been a few grains from a lorry load of the same sent out around the world. But, your pinch failed?

Don't expect ye retained the foil sachet? I suspect they might be stamped. Or even the bar code from the kit can label?
