Wine dispensed from a collapsible jerrycan?
Wine dispensed from a collapsible jerrycan?
Can it be done? Anyone else done this?
Im thinking of getting a few from here as they're cheaper than bag in box.

Im also thinking that you can manipulate the shape of the jerrycan so the yeast settles in one corner and isn't dispensed..
I simply cant be arsed to bottle anymore.
Thoughts?

I use the 5 litre bag-in-a-box for wine. They work well and you can re-use them with care but you do have to buy a few.

Not sure that water thing will collapse well enough to keep the air out as you dispense.

I buy from The Malt Miller

Boingy do you put the wine in there right out of the Demijohn and leave it to mature?
Nothing's forgotten, nothings EVER forgotten...

Was looking at the 10L version of these in Poundworld (for £1) so would be cheaper and save u on P&P
yes they are food safe and come with the tap like the ones on that website.
Gotta make sure the wines finished fermenting fully coz I would guess these would blow up like balloons!

Cully, i've not used those bags (yet) but i imagine its fine to put straight into the bag but only once fermentation has finished. One of the things that i felt you could do with a bag rather than a bottle is to store the bag in the cold to let the yeast drop and capture the yeast in the corner of the bag with those freezer clip things.
Second2none, 1 pound each? Are they bags or foldable plastic? Either way, i want them at that price. I could also use them to lager some of my beers without taking up the space of a big fv or rigid jerrycan

Straight out of the DJ. Unlike beer, wine is "dead" once made, hence the Camden tabs and/or potassium sorbate.Cully wrote:Boingy do you put the wine in there right out of the Demijohn and leave it to mature?

Unlike the smaller sizes, the 20L collapsible jerrycans are prone to glug in air. Perhaps adding weight on top would prevent this?

Re: Wine dispensed from a collapsible jerrycan?
how easy are those Brew in Boxes to clean and refill? ten of those looks like a great way of setting up a "cask" minibar at a fraction of the expense of firkins/cornys.
dazzled, doused in gin..
Re: Wine dispensed from a collapsible jerrycan?
The bags at pound world were just like the ones in the orignal link they are like a thin clear plastic with flat sides and does collapse as liquid is drained. I think you would need a strong clip to trap the yeast like your planning thou!
While ur at poundworld they also have a very nice syphon there that has a little red pumpy thing on it so no more sucking a tube for me!! Heheh just have to save up a bit to afford all these luxuries!
