did this this morning minus the rauchmalt( forgot to order

) and everything went fine, Right up until i went to run off after chilling. I have a copper hop stopper, wrapped in copper scrubbies then a voile sock around. When i run off with just water i get a great siphon effect leaving maybe a litre dead liquor. Get some break material on top though...zero nada zilch. Today i had to siphon off manually with one of those contraptions you use to empty petrol tanks and as you can imagine got loads of break into fv.ok I know thats no big deal can rack off it when i go to secondary, but....is it just a case of increasing run off tube bore or what. Any help welcome..bloody frustrating

Well, have replaced the silicon run off tube with a compression elbow,so now the wort just drops into fv. At least of gets a good aeration this way. I filled boiler up again and put in the spent hops from.today's.brew. and retried. Result was better, but greater deadspace loss, but I can live with that

I'd say it is your voile sock.Trub will block the voile up as it is very fine. My syphon is shown in this thread
Here. I recirc a few times and it runs clear.

Bumping this up..cos it happened again! Despite remaking the hop filter without any voile, tightening all compression joints, waiting for hop bed to settle. Still had to use fv siphon to get wort out. At wits end.massive loss to trub and hops. Am tempted next time to use a cheap fuel siphon starsan'd of course with some sort of sponge filter. Thoughts anyone

I use a Brupak filter in my 40L Buffalo and get perfectly good run off.
One of these and nothing else...
The very nature of BIAB means you rarely get crystal clear run off. But it will give perfectly clear beer in the end. It's nothing to worry about.
I buy from

What are you using for kettle finings? I found that when I used too much protofloc granules that I would get blockages too, I sometimes need to use the syphon to empty my boiler as well. It's happening a lot less since I started to use the right amount of protofloc.

I have the same set up as you Beer O'Clock and I have a standard tap which isn't great, but the Brupak hop filter seems to do the job well even with heavily hopped AIPAs.

Eion..your Mrs may be getting the call soon
Just using teaspoon of Irish moss
As is normal so far as I know
Next time round will sieve malt to get rid of as much as possible of all floury material, just to see if it helps
Meantime, tests with a barrel load of water prove a cheap
Rolson siphon pump clears down 20 odd liters in a few mins. Reckon if I insert into deepest part of burco before hop bed settled, will have natural filtration plus speed. Sod taps! !

Don't sieve the malt to get rid of the flour, you'll lose half of your gravity if you do that, that's where all the good stuff is and your efficiency numbers.
The wife is getting into it again shortly, having a 4 month old at time has most of her time taken up.
