I am terrified

Post by greenxpaddy » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:34 pm

...

That one day I will not want to brew and all this kit will just stare at me! Please. Never. That would be too sad.

Nah, you'll brew 'til the day you die, then your poor wife will unknowingly sell the whole kit & caboodle for pennies to some lucky bastard. That happened to a friend of mine (the Craigslist part, not the dying part.)

This happens to all brewers at some point Paddy.

RDWHAHB. Then repeat the mantra - "Cheap Beer" "Cheap Beer" "Cheap Beer" "Cheap Beer" "Cheap Beer" "Cheap Beer".

I pretty much stopped from late 2011 until about a month ago. It happens sometimes to some people (getting married and hating my job at the time helped me loose interest in brewing). So long as you keep a hold of the kit, you'll start brewing again.

I'm at this point exactly. Can't get myself back to brewing after my brew No.100.

Fortunately few days ago I smashed Wyeast package and must brew this Friday or had to pour £10 worth yeast in the drain. That would be anti-Polish. ;)

I thought getting married and hating your job were the #1 reasons to start brewing.

It's the summer. I've gone off brewing at the moment. Spending more time down the beach etc. give it a month or so and everything will return to normal.

I go through periods of inactiviy in brewing (as I do in many other things!). I always come back to it, though.

Never ever going to stop unless I die or I'm in a coma or my body is too weak to brew. Nearly run out of beer and will have to buy some tomorrow, it's always more expensive and doesn't taste as good, spurring me on to make some more at the weekend.

To be honest, getting married wasn't the biggest problem. I grew to REALLY hate my job, almost ruined the wedding for me. But I left me old work, started working offshore (with an 8 week training trip to Houston where I literally drank every microbrew in a supermarket over the course of the course) and things are looking up.

The working offshore is highly conducive to brewing. 2 on 2 off gives perfect timing for brewing.

Same here Jim - sometimes just can't be bothered - busy lives etc.

Imagine how torrified wheat must feel to think that one day no one will want to brew with it and will just be stared at. Now that would really be too sad

(I always think the wheat must be terrified to be called torrified. Well maybe after a pint or two :^o )

I would always stop brewing every summer. I used to justify it as a need to take a break.

It was really due to the weather and the inability to maintain consistent fermenting temperatures. This ended when I aquired temperature control. Now I happily brew all year.

I will take a month off when life gets in the way but that is all.

I started all grain brewing 25 years ago and have had a few periods, some lasting two years or more, of not brewing. Various reasons such as house moves, relationship break ups etc but that passion for all things brew related has never gone. Granted it is sometimes buried deep with a heap of life clutter but when the time is right then its always the right time to get back into it! Usually with a vengeance too; redesigning kit and methods and always learning something new! I've finally reached a point where I am satisfied with my set up and my beer; my partner Chelle is also really interested and we share every brew day now! I will never get rid of my gear other than to replace it if ever needed. :D
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!
